"The Fabulous Five in 1946"

Back row: Hubert, Lawrence, Tennie and Boyd
Front Row: William, Lawrence Jr., and EllieB (LB)

Lawrence (Tobe) and Tennie Ruff Robinson with their five sons that served in the armed services during WW II. Tennie is wearing the Mother’s Eagle Pin with five stars which was presented to her by Governor Olin D. Johnston for having five sons serving during WW II.

Hubert was in the Army and was a POW. He was in the invasion of Italy at the Anzio Beach Head and traveled north toward Rome. He was captured in Rome and taken to a prison camp near Munich, Germany where he was held for about a year before being liberated when the war was over. Boyd was in the Army and was in Berlin, Germany during the end of Hitler’s reign and the war. Lawrence Jr. was in the Army and saw action in the Pacific. He was wounded during hand-to-hand combat when the Japanese tried to overrun their position. William and LB were in the Navy and fought in both the Atlantic and the Pacific areas. William was a Gunner on a destroyer and LB was a Gunner’s mate on the small guns that fired at aircraft and submarines. The five star pin has been passed down to each of the five brothers. It is now with EllieB, for the others have past on.
